Juicing 101

So I decided this year to commit to juicing and so far I’ve been keeping my commitment with great results. I’ve seen many of the benefits you often hear about such as better digestion, clearer skin, and more energy. But there are so many more benefits that occur when you add the juice of fruits and vegetables to your diet. I started this journey when I began hearing and reading about the benefits of celery juice. I jumped on the bandwagon and decided to commit to starting my morning with celery juice. I tried pure celery juice in the beginning and honestly it’s not bad at all. It tastes like, well don’t be alarmed, celery juice. But after a little trial and error I came up with this celery juice recipe that I like a little better. I’m still getting the advantages of celery juice with added benefits from the ginger, lemon, and apple.

So here it is. It‘s pretty simple, one bunch of celery, the juice of one lemon, one Granny Smith apple, and a chunk of ginger produces about 25 ounces. So what are the benefits you ask? Here’s a few:

1. Heals the digestive track

2. Supports liver health

3. Treats/ prevents high blood pressure

4. Lowers high cholesterol

5. Benefits weight loss

If you’re thinking where do I began, start with a juicer. I found a pretty good one at Homegoods. It’s by Breville (here’s the link)

Another suggestion is to start by juicing what you have on hand in your kitchen. This allows you to a) use what you’ve already purchased and b) see what you like and don’t like before you go out and spend money on expensive fruits/vegetable. I keep a hefty fruit basket front and center in the kitchen. This causes me to eat or juice fruit/vegetables more often since it’s the first thing I see when I walk into the kitchen.

Still feeling overwhelmed? Listed below are some beginner juicing recipes to help you get started.

In conclusion, you really can’t go wrong. Commit to something simple at first and stick with it. You’ll begin to crave a cold pressed juice more and more. It’s your body’s way of telling you what it needs. Good luck and happy juicing 😊
